NOTES & CRITERIA

Notes

  • Only the best matches are featured here. So while low tier ratings may feel misleading, it’s because they are being rated against all of history.

  • Match are ranked by a sum of all traits: Tennis Quality, Narrative, Participant Prestige, Gut-Wrenching Moments, Legacy, Stakes, etc.

  • Within each tier, the matches are ranked in chronological order, not by quality.

  • Nothing is set in stone, and all matches are up for discussion.

  • If you feel a match is omitted let me know!

  • If matches are not available by an official tennis body, I will instead leave the search result on YouTube. There is a chance that nothing is available.

  • Other Match Tier rankings for the WTA, ATP non-slams, etc are coming soon!

  • I’ve included Best of Five Olympics matches in this list.

GRADING CRITERIA

  • S tier is reserved solely for the greatest matches of all time. These matches typically define an era or transcend time itself.

  • A Tier matches are legendary and epic matches that leaves a lasting memory.

  • B Tier matches are entertaining matches that are fun to watch, but may lack certain traits for a higher grading.

  • C Tier matches are meant to be the last cut off, as this list is reserved for the best ATP grand slam matches of all time.
